Action Film Analysis ..

Knight and Day- Narrative Theories

Todorov ..

Equilibrium- Everything starts off normally for Cameron Diaz ( June), as it's her sister's wedding she wants to get something special for her, on the way back home from her trip she bumps into a running spy named Miller played by (Tom Cruise).
Disequilibrium- During the middle of the film is when the disequilibrium happens, when everybody believes  Miller is dead and June goes back home in time for her sister's wedding. June then comes back to find out what's going on with Miller and jumps into her ex boyfriend who takes her for some pie and that's when Miller comes back.
New Equilibrium- When Miller wakes up in hospital he ask's where June is, the agent tell's him she's gone home and he shouldn't get distracted however when the nurse comes he finds out it's June, she kisses him they both get in a car and drive off with a sign post saying Cape Horn.

Barthes ..

Knight and day opens with Cameron Diaz (June) and Tom Cruise (Miller) in a airport. Straight away they use Barthes theory of action and enigma codes. Something happens with June's flight however Miller successfully goes into the flight but whispers in June's ear saying "Somethings happen for a reason" which hints that he's up to something and June is part of his plan.

However what they both don't know is an agent named Fitzgerald is watching Miller as he's a running spy and becomes under the impression that June is working with Miller. June then starts to understand Miller isn't just a normally flight attender when he kills the few passengers on the plane and lands the planes then runs away.

Claude Levi- Strauss ..

This theory is about Binary Oppositions for example, Hot and Cold are Binary Opposites, it's used for many different reasons such as to create contrast between both the Hero and the Villain

In Knight and Day, the Hero is Miller (Tom Cruise) and the Villain is Jordi Molla who is sort of unknown which just shows how the Villain isn't as important as the Hero

It also makes the Hero look more important.

Propps ..

Hero- Miller (Tom Cruise)
Villain- Jordi Molla
Starts with Cameron Diaz being the Sidekick but then during the film becomes the Princess as she needs saving by Miller.
Donner- I would think the Donner is the person who gives Miller advice or guidance. So I would think the donner in this film is the agent.
